ABOUT US
POLGRAIN ALPACAS - HEATHER AND DAVID
We moved to Polgrain in 2018 and our Alpaca adventure started the following year. We had a strong interest in exploring what could be achieved with Alpaca fleece. Heather has spent many years working with various types of yarn and is undertaking a weaving diploma at the Handweavers Studio in London.
The two of us have been absorbed in many things since moving to the farm, including building our small Huacaya herd of now 23 animals. Not only have we had great success producing commercial grade throws from their fleece, we have also completely fallen for the charms and personality of the animals. Our husbandry is the two of us, daily, loving and completely hands on.
With the whole farm now up and running, we have decided to take our Alpaca journey to the next stage and make it a true area of focus. We’ve learnt that we should breed the best genetics in order to produce the highest of quality end-products from the Alpaca fleece.
Fortunately, also in North Cornwall, enter our now good friends Tom and Wendy with their national prize-winning Suri herd at Dark Sky Alpacas. We concluded that, not only will the Suri fleece bring luxury and lustre to everything that we can produce, Dark Sky, having achieved so much with their Suri herd in such a short space of time, was the obvious place to start to buy Suris and breed our own Polgrain Suri herd.
With Tom and Wendy’s shared commitment to creating fabulous products, our partnership and the vision for Poldark Alpacas was born, aiming to make outstanding Suri genetics available to all UK breeders and champion the commercial use of the unique Suri fleece.
Biosecurity
- Farm fields and paddocks securely and professionally fenced
- We have separate biosecure mating paddocks
- Any alpaca moving on to the farm must be bTB tested clear before delivery to the farm and all alpacas sold and leaving the farm are also tested.

- We have never had a case of bTB
